CINCINNATI — “Ohio is behind almost every American state when it comes to the percentage of renewable energy it creates.
The United States, as a whole, sits at nearly 14 percent.
As for our neighboring states; Indiana generates 5 percent of its electric power from renewables, defined as conventional hydroelectric, wind, solar, geothermal or biomass (organic waste) power. Kentucky is nearing 5 percent, Michigan 8 percent and both Pennsylvania and West Virginia are around 4 percent, according to the 2015 annual figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
By comparison, California generates 33 percent of its electricity from renewable energies.
The costs and health risks related to climate change and the pollution created by burning fossil fuels are something more and more companies, universities and government entities recognize and want to change, said Steve Melink, owner of Melink Corp., in Clermont County’s Union Township.”
